"What Will You Do?" & "Look Up"

"What Will You Do?"

Postmortem. Postpartum
Your life has just started
Cause when you got saved
Your old life departed
You’re no longer a slave
You’re no longer depraved
You’re no longer deprived
Your name's been engraved

In God’s Book of Life
Yeah you’ve been revived
That’s why we say born again
You have survived and arrived
At the place of “Amens”
Where there’s no longer sin
God has brought you from the desert
Right back to Him

Now you’ve had reversion
From former perversion
We call that conversion
But please be alerted
The world’s been deserted
By Christians who have no conviction
People go to Hell
Every year by the millions

So what will you do?

We don’t open our mouths
It’s time to admit it
We say that we’ve shared
But really we didn’t
We’re evangelists
But really we isn’t
We don’t like the heat
So we stay outta the kitchen

We get out of the way
We refuse to embrace
The Lord’s Great Commission
We don’t want to lose face
We put reputation
Above others’ souls
It’s like, in the end
We don’t care where they go

It’s a shame we don’t know
That Hell’s a real place
Where sinners go
At the end of their days
If we’re Christians you’d think
We would know
We’ve all been commissioned
We all have to go
And spread the Word
To all the world
Mission trip is no va-ca
Don’t be absurd
Satan is a volcano
It’s gonna hurt
Don’t look so surprised
We were never promised comfort

So what will you do?

Why do we crave comfort?
It’s the American Dream
An illusion man-made
It bursts at the seams
With lies about what
Can make us all happy
Two cars and two floors
For our four-person family

Then we think our lives
Will be so complete
But the Son didn’t say that
That's not in the red ink
So don’t be so concerned
With comfort and ease
Man I’m tired of this crap
We should stand up and speak
So stop with the jib-jab
The who’s-dating-who fad
And start speakin’ truth
The world needs to hear that
And hear it from you
Cause you are the one
That they’ll listen to
You’re their friend
So start actin’ like it
And be about it
You’ll change the world
There’s no doubt about it
If you live it out
And go on out
And spit it out
You’ll change the world

So what will you do?

"Look Up"

You cannot see my blemishes
My black tattoos
When I cover myself up
Put on my black suit and my black shiny shoes
And that’s something we all do, ain’t it?
We have imperfections, so we cover it, layer it
Parts of our lives that are peeling, repaint it
Potholes in our parkways, repave it
But styling superficial surfaces
Ain’t the purpose of church services
Our minds can get to spinnin’ in circles
Brains become religious three ring circuses.
We go crazy, no whiz kids
When questions swirlin like a whirlwind.
But if you question what the purpose is
Start to question whose world it is.
You want the answer? Look up.

Have you ever considered
The power of prayer.
I know your brain is littered
It’s hard to maintain the stare
Concentration broken
By the tear of doubt’s glare.
Who are you talking to -
A castle in the air?
The ozone layer?
Simba said dead kings, deceased most valuable players.
Man I swear there’s someone there.
Not some surveyor giving you a questionnaire.
But its someone who cares.
More than heaven’s mayor
He’s a Father with flair
Heavenly mansions are his day care
God’s a repairman
He’ll repair your despair
Light you up brighter than Times Square
If you look up

Let me say this directly
You need to personally converse with the Lord
It’s not a matter of doing it correctly
But a matter of not letting it be ignored
You can be floored
By the rewards when you explore
The revelation of rehabilitation
Found in our Lord
The sensation of liberation has no explanation
Like partial differential equations
There is no rationalization
Why to make us clean, Christ would choose to get so dirty
It’s like a prima ballerina choosing to dance sloppy
Just to blow our sins out of the water
It’s our personal Hiroshima, Nagasaki
When we look up

There is no denying prayer’s importance
First of all it’s in accordance
With God’s Holy Word
Which has the power to raise corpses
Obedience just makes sense
And consider that you can alter events
Change the course of history
Because the words we speak aren’t just dreams dreamt
But letters read
And whispers heard around the world
Like a shot fired, nothing slips past our Lord
He knows who we are and who we have been
The girls at a party sippin on gin
The entirety of their identity dependent on if a boy talks to them
A guy chillin with his friends, idolizing sex in loneliness
Thinking happiness is having lots of sex
The cutter, the closeted homosexual, the abused, the ignored
We all have issues that make us insecure
And you don’t have to tell everyone
But give it to the Lord
He already knows anyways
He’s written every chapter of your life
And, yes, every book is going to have pages of darkness and pages of light
And on page one the happy ending may be out of sight
But it’s there, it’s coming, it’s near
God does listen to every word
When we speak He hears
And He cares and He loves
So He deserves more than a couple of minutes of prayer a day
He deserves constant worship
That’s why prayer is so important
So look up
