March 9 - Silent House
Why you should get excited: Elizabeth Olsen (that's right, the younger sister of the Olsen twins) has recently emerged as a rising star in Hollywood and her new movie, Silent House, puts a twist on the "found footage" style of film-making by presenting the movie as 1 real-time, continuous take.
Why you should get excited: Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill look to bring the television show that originally starred Johnny Depp to the big screen with this R-rated remake. The premise of cops returning to high school under-cover certainly has promise and a sequel is already in the works.
March 23 - The Hunger Games
Why you should get excited: The Hunger Games is one of the most successful novel series in recent years and its film version stars Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence. This film will be successful no matter what with its large built-in fan base, but I worry about all the talk about toning down the action and violence found in the book. Either way, the movie is filled with famous faces and should be lots of fun.
March 30 - Wrath of the Titans
Why you should get excited: Everyone knows that this movie's predecessor, Clash of the Titans, wasn't that great and had horrible 3D. However, the filmmakers promise that they've learned from their mistakes and that Wrath of the Titans will be better. Then again, they still opted to convert the movie to 3D after filming, rather than shooting it in 3D. I'm giving them 1 last chance...
April 27 - The Raven
Why you should get excited: John Cusack stars as the infamous Edgar Allen Poe, brought in to help catch a killer replicating the murders in Poe's literary works. Yes, it's pretty much that first episode of Castle, but the movie looks intense and filmmakers are comparing it to an R-rated Sherlock Holmes.
May 4 - The Avengers
Why you should get excited: Frankly, such an ensemble film interconnecting a number of different movies has never been done before in the history of Hollywood. This will be pure, fun, popcorn entertainment.
May 25 - Men in Black III
Why you should get excited: Will Smith returns as Agent J in this fun, high-concept action-comedy. Agent K will be there too, but this time in the form of Josh Brolin, playing Tommy Lee Jones' younger self when J is transported to the past.
June 8 - Prometheus
Why you should get excited: Director Ridley Scott's very loose prequel to Alien as assembled an all-star cast around a plot that's being kept top-secret. This is a return to the classic sci-fi fare which has been missing from theaters in recent years.
June 22 - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Based on a book by Seth Grahame-Smith, also the author of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, this film has a ridiculous plot, but one that promises to lots of axe-swinging, vampire-slaying fun.
June 22 - Brave
Why you should get excited: Pixar dropped the ball with last summer's Cars 2. Brave looks to restore Pixar's reputation as the most original movie studio in Hollywood. Will it succeed?
July 3 - The Amazing Spider-Man
Why you should get excited: Yes, it hasn't been that long since the last Spider-Man movie came out. But Sony Pictures had to make this film in order to keep the movie rights from going back to Marvel. That being said, it looks like Sony put lots of effort into this film and made sure to leave out any scenes with an emo, dancing Peter Parker.
July 20 - The Dark Knight Rises
Why you should get excited: TDKR promises just as much fun as The Avengers, but undoubtedly with infinite more depth of character and plot. Christian Bale and director Chris Nolan will, with this film, have created the perfect superhero trilogy.
August 3 - The Bourne Legacy
Why you should get excited: It will be interesting to see what Jeremy Renner does as the main star in a summer blockbuster about super-spy Jason Bourne, that doesn't even have Bourne in it.
August 17 - The Expendables 2
Why you should get excited: Chuck Norris. Really that should be enough; but there's like 20 other action stars as well. Looks to be as least as fun as the first film.
December 14 - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Why you should get excited: I know The Hobbit is by no means a summer movie, but it's The Hobbit!!! Peter Jackson's two part prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy is gonna knock your socks off!!!
