2013 Summer Movie Trailers - May

May 3rd

Iron Man 3

Get Excited: Is it even really necessary to spell it out? Robert Downey Jr. is back as Tony Stark in a sequel that looks just as good as the first film and has all the momentum from The Avengers. Re-team RDJ with his Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black and we've already forgiven Marvel for Iron Man 2.

The Iceman

Get Excited: Before breaking out as the villain in Man of Steel later this summer, Michael Shannon stars as a family man who is secretly a hit man. Shannon is amazing if you're not familiar with his work and the movie already has great reviews. It may be bit too indie/serious for the average summer blockbuster-seeker though.

The Great Gatsby

Get Excited: Based on one of the most celebrated pieces of American literature ever written, director Baz Luhrmann's adaptation found its perfect protagonist in Leonardo DiCaprio. While the trailers look flashy, its still unclear if the film will actually be all that thrilling.

Peeples

Get Excited: Craig Robinson seems like a nice enough comic, but the only reason I can think of to see this film is if your on a date and absolutely feel the need to see something that is low on explosions and high on relationships. But if you see it, let me know how it is, because I'll certainly be skipping this one.

May 17th

The English Teacher

Get Excited: Yeah, it looks a light and airy, but I suppose it could be fun. It's just going to be hard to make time for a film like this when there are so many other, more exciting looking movies out.

Erased

Get Excited: I'd love for Aaron Eckhart to break out as a headlining star, but he'll have to start choosing projects more exciting than this relatively mediocre-looking film if he doesn't want his most memorable role to be Two-Face in The Dark Knight.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Get Excited: Early reports indicate director J.J. Abrams' sequel is a bit vapid, not doing much to advance the franchise. But the trailers certainly argue otherwise and even if its only as good as its predecessor, that would still be pretty darn good.

May 24th

Epic

Get Excited: It's got a voice cast to make any pre-teen demand a ticket and will likely make decent money, but only because it will be the first cartoon of the summer, certainly not the best. Adults will likely find it silly and predictable.

Fast & Furious 6

Get Excited: Most movie franchises which get to their 6th sequel are usually straight to DVD cash-grabs. But The Fast & The Furious franchise is like The Land Before Time series (13 delightful cartoons total) on crack. This one looks even more over-the-top than the others. So if you liked those, you'll want to catch this one too.

The Hangover III

Get Excited: The Hangover was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. The sequel was one of the worst. This third entry looks to be somewhere in between, but The Wolfpack deserves a shot at redemption.

May 31st

After Earth

Get Excited: The Will Smith and Jaden Smith combo is definitely more intriguing that their last pairing, The Pursuit of Happyness, now that Jaden has grown into his own as an actor a bit more. Most people still seem mixed on this one and I'm with them so far; it seems like a decent idea, but its execution will be key and director M. Night Shyamalan has struggled to deliver recently.

Now You See Me

Get Excited: It's got a great cast and while Burt Wonderstone may have tried to give magic movies a bad name, films like The Prestige and The Illusionist prove that magic can be a really interesting concept for a movie.
