Does the Best Team Win the Super Bowl?

Unscripted NFL Power Rankings
2013 Offseason Pre-Free Agency

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl. And, I will admit, they earned the win in that game against the San Francisco 49ers. But does the best team in the league always win the Super Bowl? I'd say no. The 2007 New England Patriots are the obvious, but perfect example, going all season without a loss until that infamous big game upset. I also bring the Patriots up because I happen to think they once again earned the honor of being the best team last season to not win the Super Bowl and that makes them my #1 ranked team as we enter the 2013 season (or at least, the 2013 offseason). But where does everyone else fall? Hike!

10.  Indianapolis Colts

As it was with Peyton Manning, for better or for worse, the Colts will go the way of their quarterback. If Andrew Luck improves, the Colts will only continue to ascend.

9.  Washington Redskins

The 'Skins are at #9 based solely on my hope that RG3 can make a full recovery. Unfortunately my gut tells me he's permanently lost some of his explosiveness. That being said, he's still an intelligent QB who can get the ball where it needs to go. Just don't get injured! Frankly, I like Kurt Cousins just as much as RG3, but Griffin still has that x-factor I want on the field.

8.  Houston Texans

The playoffs (and those ugly blow-out losses to the Patriots) proved the Texans have work to do. But the rest of the season shows they have potential to be truly intimidating.

7.  Green Bay Packers

All the right pieces seem to be in place; its a mystery to me why the Packers aren't better.

6.  Seattle Seahawks

You didn't make it to the Super Bowl, but now everyone knows you're the real deal. Only question is, will you take any more teams by surprise or are they ready for you now? But still, expect to rise.

5.   Baltimore Ravens

Yeah, Ravens, you won the Super Bowl and I sincerely congratulate you for it. But don't think for a second in 2013 you're going to be the same team you were in 2012. Sorry, but frankly you're at #5 for now simply out of my respect for a team winning the Super Bowl. Expect to fall.

4.   Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning proved he's still got some football left in his tank, but how long will it last? Stalling in the playoffs is keeping the Broncos lower than I would have liked to put them.

3.   Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta finally won a playoff game! If they keep working on their defense, they might just win a couple more.

2.   San Francisco 49ers

SF is a young team with a young quarterback. They'll enter the 2013 season wanting to prove their talent and they'll likely do just that.

1.  New England Patriots

As long as they've got Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, NE is a contender. Just re-sign your free agents and make some more improvements on defense.
