Weekend Preview 9/28-30/2012

Weekend Preview 9/28-10/4/2012

There are 13 films coming out in wide and limited release this week. Starting Friday are 11 movies; Looper looks to be the best, but Hellbound?, Hotel Transylvania, and Stars in Shorts (a collection of short films) look interesting as well. Plus I'm sorta in love with Anna Kendrick, so I secretly want to see Pitch Perfect too. Later in the week we see the re-release of two classic films.

Click "Read More" for trailers of Bringing Up Bobby, Hellbound?, The Hole 3D, Hotel Transylvania, The Iran Job, Looper, The Other Dream Team, Pitch Perfect, Solomon Kane, Stars in Shorts, Won't Back Down, E.T., and Lawrence of Arabia.

9/28/2012

Bringing Up Bobby: A con artist moves her son to a conservative neighborhood in Oklahoma in an effort to build a better future, but it doesn't take long for her past to catch up with her, and for her son's behavior to cause problems of its own.

Hellbound?: A feature-length documentary that seeks to discover why we are so bound to the idea of hell and what our views on hell reveal about how we perceive God, justice, the Bible and, ultimately, ourselves.

The Hole 3D: A pair of brothers stumble upon a mysterious hole in their basement that leads to the darkest corridors of their fears and nightmares.

Hotel Transylvania: Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count's teen-aged daughter.

The Iran Job: A documentary that follows one year in the life of American pro basketball player Kevin Sheppard, who signed on to play for the upstart Iranian Super League team A.S. Shiraz.

Looper: In 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to 'close the loop' by transporting back Joe's future self.

The Other Dream Team: The incredible story of the 1992 Lithuanian basketball team, whose athletes struggled under Soviet rule, became symbols of Lithuania's independence movement, and - with help from the Grateful Dead - triumphed at the Barcelona Olympics.

Pitch Perfect: Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.

Solomon Kane: A 16th Century killing machine who finds his spirituality after an encounter with the Devil's own Reaper embarks on a mission to take down the Overload, whose human Raiders are ravaging England.

Stars in Shorts: A collection of short films featuring some of the world's biggest actors. Titles include Friend Request Pending, Steve, Procession, and Not Your Time.

Won't Back Down: Two determined mothers, one a teacher, look to transform their children's failing inner city school. Facing a powerful and entrenched bureaucracy, they risk everything to make a difference in the education and future of their children.

10/3/2012

E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial: A meek and alienated little boy finds a stranded extraterrestrial. He has to find the courage to defy the authorities to help the alien return to its home planet.

10/4/2012

Lawrence of Arabia: Epic rumination on a flamboyant and controversial British military figure and his conflicted loyalties during wartime service.
