2013 Week 3
Another week of close games proves that anything can happen in the NFL and that aside from the Top 3 teams and the bottom few, pretty much any team can beat any other team, especially when it's still this early in the season. That's a big reason why I'm glad I just do a Top 10; I can't imagine trying to order 32 teams that can all seem so close sometimes. Honestly, even #8, #9, and #10 were really difficult to evaluate this week. I ended up taking a more conservative approach, but the outlandish side of me was giving serious consideration to not only the Colts, but the Chiefs, Dolphins, and Rams as well. Even so, there was one new team in the Top 10, the Bears, so let's see how everyone ranked. Hike!
Nipping at #10's heels: The Colts
10. Cincinnati Bengals
Last Week: 10th
Top Ranking: 9th (Week 1)
9. Chicago Bears
Last Week: --
Top Ranking: 9th (Week 3)
8. New Orleans Saints
Last Week: 8th
Top Ranking: 8th (Week 2, 3)
7. New England Patriots
Last Week: 6th
Top Ranking: 1st (Pre-Free Agency)
6. Houston Texans
Last Week: 7th
Top Ranking: 6th (Week 3)
5. Atlanta Falcons
Last Week: 4th
Top Ranking: 3rd (Pre-Free Agency)
Atlanta lost to the Saints and then barely beat the Rams, so they dropped a spot. On the other hand, the only thing that matters in getting wins and the Falcons should be able to keep racking them up. Unfortunately they don't play any teams ranked higher than them until the back half of the season, so it'll be a while until we can get a balanced measure of the Falcons.
4. Green Bay Packers
Last Week: 5th
Top Ranking: 4th (Week 3)
The Packers played competitively against the 49ers and then thrashed the Redskins as Aaron Rodgers threw a record-tying 480 yards. Randall Cobb looks amazing playing from the slot while Jermichael Finley and James Starks are making some great plays. And looking at the schedule, the Packers could really pile on the wins this season.
3. San Francisco 49ers
Last Week: 1st
Top Ranking: 1st (Pre-Draft, Preseason, Week 2)
Everyone still thinks the 49ers are elite, but the way they got schooled 29-3 by the Seahawks in Week 2 has got to have them a little worried. The addition to Trent Richardson to the Colts may give them some trouble this week, but the 49ers should be able to beat them through the air.
2. Denver Broncos
Last Week: 2nd
Top Ranking: 2nd (Week 2, 3)
The Broncos look unbeatable. I'm sure they won't actually have a perfect season, but it's hard to say which team on their regular season schedule could beat them; the Raiders certainly don't stand a chance this week. I honestly wanted to give them a turn at the #1 spot, but the Seahawks just barely edged them out again.
1. Seattle Seahawks
Last Week: 3rd
Top Ranking: 1st (Week 1, 3)
The Seahawks' win over the 49ers proved to the last of any doubters that the Seahawks are real contenders. They've got a tough schedule (aside from the Jaguars this week who also don't stand a chance), but there's no doubt the 'Hawks could go all the way.
